Virtual consultations
Scheduling a Virtual Consultation
A virtual consultation is a convenient first step for patients in New Jersey and New York. Dr. Subtelny reviews your goals, photos, and any imaging by secure video. An in-person visit with an examination and imaging comes before any surgery is scheduled.

Taking Your Photos
Good photos let Dr. Subtelny study your face, jaws, and smile before your visit, so your time together is spent on what matters to you. The whole set takes about five minutes with a helper.
- Ask someone else to take the photos. Selfies taken at arm's length distort the nose and chin.
- Have your helper stand about five feet away and use 2x zoom.
- Hold the phone at the height of your eyes, not above or below.
- Turn off portrait mode, beauty modes, and filters.
- Face a window for soft, even light, with a plain wall behind you.
- Pull your hair back from your forehead and ears, and remove glasses.
- Keep your head level, as if looking at the horizon. Do not tip your chin up or down.
- Frame from the top of your head to your collarbones.

The Five Photos
Front, Relaxed
Face the camera with your eyes straight ahead. Say “Emma,” then let your jaw and lips relax completely, so your teeth are slightly apart. Do not force your lips closed.
Front, Smiling
The same position, with a full, natural smile that shows your teeth.
Right Profile
Turn your whole body so your right side faces the camera. Keep your eyes looking straight ahead, not at the phone, with your jaw and lips relaxed as in the first photo.
Left Profile
The same, with your left side facing the camera.
Teeth Together
A close-up of your teeth biting together on your back teeth, with your lips pulled back in a wide smile. Hold the phone straight in front of your mouth.

Sending Your Photos
Upload your photos with the secure form linked below. You can send them as soon as you have requested a visit. For your privacy, please do not send photos by text message or regular email. If your orthodontist or dentist has taken a panoramic or side-view (cephalometric) X-ray, you can upload it with your photos, along with the front and back of your medical insurance card. CT scan files are not needed.
The secure upload form opens in a new window.
